Since we took our first breath we have been divided into two different essential groups - men and women, or should I rather wrote women and men, I do not know. What is right in a gender perspective?
Me, maybe you, my classmates, my friends we all had been raised in the era of digital tv broadcasting so we are affected by this magic box since those days when we couldn't even speak and barely walk. If its right or Nah, we could talk about for hours but its happening that we can say for sure. So now the question is how much it affects us during our growing
up and continue. I guess that it affects us a lot a lot and a lot but in the end, it only affects our behavior and attitudes but do not create them, only we create our statements about things, of course, we are affected by many and many subjects from outside world, from family or friends, but our ideas and thoughts create only our own heads and hearts. So yeah TV affects us a lot but isn't responsible for gender inequality in our society, actually now I wouldn't be afraid to say that the TV is pretty good tool to deal with this issue and try to balance those differences which are in our society and I also think its already on a pretty good path.
A different point of view on Tv and or other media and gender is that the media products are gendered since their production and this content is widespread. I would suggest to firstly separate what is aimed to be understood as a serious and purposefully revealed message and what is only for example advertising. Of course, media products are gendered because each product has its target group or at least should have and gender wherever we want or not is a pretty big persuasive factor and this is what advertising is looking for. So when we want to judge gender inequality or equality in media we should think about the origins of each simple message we accept.
Have you ever heard about Alison Bechdel? Me neither before but most of the radical gender "warriors", if I can call them like that, should know. This American cartoonist made a comics where he displayed a woman sharing her basic rule she is led by in choosing film she wants to see - I wanna see a film where will be two women talking about something different than only about men. Yeah, that was the born day of a Bechdel's test, which has been at first meant only as a little feminist joke. There is also a site www.bechdeltest.com, where you can see which film had passed and which hadn't. In April 2015, it listed 58% of these films passing all three requirements.
As I said before we all had been constantly affected by television and its broadcasting and can say with a clear mind that most of the planet knows who The Smurfs are even more in
those days after The Smurfs movie from 2011. But did we know that we are facing one of the basic gender affecting principle used in the whole sphere of whole media? The Smurfette principle, oh yeeah the only one, irreplaceable and unique Smurfette, only one girl-smurf in the whole village of boy-smurfs. She gotta have so much work to take care of all those fellas but nonono, she is the only one in the village so everyone is trying to get her attention and treat her in the best way. But still she is only one in the man narrative show so she wouldn't be tonight without other male characters and this is what the Smurfette principle is about, the message is clear - boys are the norm, girls the variation, boys are central, girls are peripheral.
Another important and often spoken chapter in media gender topic is the role of Femme fatal a wonderfully beautiful and charming woman using her magic to gain her aims usually driven by a desire of punishment or power not afraid to use just right her female attributes to get what she wants.
This whole gender topic is pretty tricky and doesn't have a simple straight ending which could lead to a single answer I guess. A man was from the beginning of ages the one who takes care of the whole family, getting food, building a house, protecting family property and their lives.
A woman was the one who takes care about husband and rest of family while a man isn't at home and do the soft work, even though washing beddings for a whole afternoon in the river isn't such a soft work, but still, you got me. And this is the point I would end up here.
Take care and live happily
